About the distillery

Bruichladdich built its modern reputation by challenging many assumptions about Islay whisky, particularly through its emphasis on terroir, barley provenance and unpeated single malt. While the distillery also produces the heavily peated Port Charlotte and Octomore ranges, its core philosophy often focuses on texture, transparency and experimentation rather than traditional Islay stereotypes. Octomore in particular became famous for pushing peat levels to extremes while still retaining complexity and elegance.
