Isolation is normally exactly what a whisky brand turns into a premium, and Jura has as much of it as anywhere in Scotland: one single-track road, one village, one distillery, a ferry from Islay. It never really charged for any of it, and the reason sits in the distillery's own history — rebuilt around 1960 with a blender's money, to make a light spirit designed to disappear into blends. Both of our valuation models now land in almost the same place, essentially fair value, which makes the twelve-year-old one of the few genuinely accessible ways into island single malt.

Ardbeg has built one of whisky's most devoted followings, with a membership committee, an annual celebration and limited editions that resurface at auction for several times their price. Yet the core Ten, the bottle on which that reputation was built, remains one of the best values in peated whisky: just over fifty euros for a malt our model rates around fifty percent above its shelf price. Whatever brand premium exists across the Ardbeg range, this is one place where it is notably restrained.

Caol Ila is the biggest distillery on Islay, and most of what it makes vanishes into Johnnie Walker. The own-name 12 year old is one of the most affordable ways into proper Islay peat, around 44 euros, and our peer model reads it as a deep gem at well under half what the famous Islay names command.

By our relative-value model, the Talisker 10 trades at a heavy premium to its peers. By our fundamental-value model, that premium almost entirely disappears: priced within a few percent of its intrinsic value, the bottle is one where the market is paying less for a brand than for a whisky whose objective qualities justify most of what is asked.

Glendronach's older expressions developed a cult following on the strength of heavy Spanish-oak sherry maturation. The 12 is the same house style, half the age and a fraction of the price, hard act to follow.

A serious fifteen-year-old Highland, in continuous distribution, priced like an introductory whisky — because its gentle, heather-and-honey style is the one the market does not chase. Premium Watch on the discount for being unfashionable.
